The idea came from a loom.

Texsolv was founded in 1977 by Sune Ivarsson in Alafors, north of Gothenburg, to make heddles, cord and tie-up sets for hand weaving looms. The heddles are made of a polyester cord with a loop at each end, and the cord has loops along its length so that it can be fastened anywhere without a knot. Weavers all over the world use it, and many of the leading loom makers fit it as standard.

The founder also needed a flexible, reliable rope outdoors: for pulling game out of the forest, tying down loads and hanging tools in the workshop. He took the loop design from the heddle cord, gave it a stronger braid and built-in stretch, and in 1983 RunLock was born. The name says what it does: the rope runs through its own loops and locks.

Today the company is run by Thomas Ivarsson, Sune's son, and both Texsolv and RunLock are made at Vitlanda in Tösse, south of Åmål on the west shore of Lake Vänern. The ropes are braided on the company's own machines, under its own quality control, from 100 % polyester.

Tested, not just promised

In 2016 one rope of each size was pulled to breaking at SP, the Swedish national testing institute (now RISE). The published breaking strengths are set with a margin below the measured results, and the stretch figures on this site are the elongations from that test. The test, size by size →

Who uses it

Hunters, dog owners, boat owners, farmers and anyone with a trailer, a roof rack or a washing line. RunLock has also been supplied to armed forces, police and rescue services, and to professionals in forestry and transport, who all put value on the same three things: flexibility, quality and simplicity.
