One rope, six sizes.
The number is the size, the millimetres are the diameter, and loop length, strength, stretch and weight all grow with it. No 4 hangs the washing; No 20 tows the car. Five colours, the same rope in all of them.

Breaking strength is the published rating, set with a margin below the force measured at SP. Stretch is the elongation at break in the same test.

Pick the size by the job.
When in doubt, take the next size up: a thicker rope is kinder to the hand, kinder to the load and has strength to spare.
No 4 · 4 mm
The thin one. Washing lines, tent and tarp lines, hanging gear and clothes in the camp, crayfish traps. 7 m weighs less than 100 g.
No 6 · 5 mm
Leashes, fender lines, light tie-downs, a tether at the camp, long lines by the metre. The size of the leashes.
No 8 · 6 mm
The all-round size. Cargo on the trailer, the bike on the rack, the canoe on the roof, the gate, the ladder. The size in every vehicle set.
No 12 · 8 mm
Heavier tie-downs, longer runs, dragging by hand. Comfortable to pull on.
No 16 · 10 mm
The hunting rope. Dragging game, lifting, pulling by hand with a body loop, quads and garden tractors. Mooring lines for small boats.
No 20 · 12 mm
The towing line. Cars, 4x4, snowmobiles, heavy dragging and recovery, with 25 % stretch to soften the pull. Mooring for larger boats and swell.

Seen in the dark. Or not seen at all.
Fluorescent orange and yellow for towing lines and anything you need to find again. Blue, black and white for everything else. The leashes and the snowmobile set come in a two-colour braid, black with fluorescent yellow or orange.
