A loose rope. Do what you like.
A rope of loops hanging from a clamp, with real physics: two strands that part in every loop, so every loop is a hole, and a rope that cannot pass through itself. Drag any part of it. Hold still over a loop, or over the ring, and the part you hold is pushed through; hold a loop still over a hook and it goes on the hook. Pull, and a loop closes on the rope, just like the real one.
Loose rope, two hooks and a ring
- Drag any part of the rope. What you hold comes a little towards you.
- Hold still over a loop or the ring and the part you hold goes through; hold a loop still over a hook and it goes on the hook.
- Lock: end through a loop, the loop over a hook, pull. The loop runs up to the hook and closes on the rope. Slack it off and it opens.
- Turn the view with a right-drag, or two fingers on a phone, to see a lock from the side.
The same rope, in numbers.
The rope on screen is built like the real one: two strands, joined every few centimetres, free in between. The loops open and close because the strands can part, and the locks hold because a loaded loop closes on whatever runs through it. Nothing is scripted. Show me a lock only moves the hand; the rope does the rest.
